The history of Alamo Heights, Texas dates back to the mid-1800's when the area was settled by two early settlers, George Washington Brackenridge and Charles Anderson. The Brackenridge properties were eventually sold to an order of nuns who established and still run Incarnate Word University. The only requirement of the sale was that the sisters buy all 280 acres in Alamo Heights and preserve the natural beauty. Today there is a park bearing the Brackenridge name with the nearby Witte Art and natural history museums. The building of Alamo Heights began in the 1890's when the Charles Anderson properties were sold to an investment company for its development. Today, Alamo Heights is a prized for its neighborhoods, and the City endeavors to maintain the historic beauty of the area.
