San Antonio’s Tower of the Americas is surrounded by the Hemisfair Park and has long been iconic for the city.
Early this February, the City Council approved a plan to funnel a private investment of approximately $200 million into the 1968 World’s Fair site. The project includes hotel space, residential development, 50-70,000 square feet of new retail space, and 120,000 square feet of new office space. An 800-space parking garage will be built under the Hemisfair site. The City will contribute approximately $18 million to control 600 of the spaces. The project is expected to draw additional private investors and philanthropists.
