Wine country in Texas? You bet! There are a number of wineries and vineyard. Here is some information I pulled together.
The website for Becker Vineyards had the most accessible information so I’ve spent the most time detailing this winery. I’m not a wine aficionado, but I think the information I gleaned from the Becker Vineyards website will give those of you who are an idea what Texas wine country provides.
Becker Vineyards: had their first harvest in 1995 and now has three vineyards. Excluding major holidays, tours are held daily at the Estate with tasting. The Estate also works with groups and special occasions.
The Estate near Stonewall, Texas: 46 acres comprised of 8 varietals, including Syrah, Petite Syrah, Sauvignon Blanc, Malbec, Petite Verdot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot.
Bluebonnet Hills Vineyards near Balinger, Texas: 29 acres comprised of Chenin Blanc, Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon Blanc and Scheurebe.
Peter’s Prairie Vineyard near Mason, Texas: 12.5 acres comprised of Zinfandel, Albarino, Syrah, Malbec, Pinot Grigio, Nebbiolo, and Barbera.
Wedding Oak Winery: is currently showing 13 wines on their website. has a couple locations. One is located in the heart of San Saba, Texas. They have a tasting room open daily at the intersection of US Hwy 190 and US Hwy 16. Hours of operation vary from 10a or 11a to 6p or 7p depending on day. The other is at Wildseed Farms in Fredericksburg, Texas. Open for visiting daily; hours of operation 10a-6p.
William Chris Winery: The website reports that they farm about 40 acres all over Texas including Malbec, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Tannat, Mourvèdre and Trebbiano Toscano. Their tasting room is located on US Hwy 290 in Hye, Texas. Hours of operation are 10a-5p Monday-Wednesday, and 10a-6p on Thursday; however, reservation are recommended Monday through Thursday. Reservations are required Friday through Sunday.
Stone House Vineyard: In 1996, Howard and Angela Moench purchased acreage bordering Lake Travis Their first vintage was in 2002. Tasting room and winery is open Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 12-5 and by appointment. They are also available special events. Located in Spicewood, Texas on Haynie Flat Road.
Pontotoc Vineyard: The farm was originally founded by German Emigration Company in 1872. The family purchased the estate in 2003 and has worked to restore many of the historic buildings. Pontotoc means the “Land of Hanging Grapes.” The tasting room is located on Main Street in Fredericksburg. Operating hours are Friday and Saturday from 12p-8p and Sunday from 12p-5p.
Lewis Wines: The winery is located near Johnson City. They work with quality growers all over Texas as well as farm their own estate. Tastings are done by appointment 7 days a week from 10:30a to 5:00p
Kuhlman Cellars: Located in Stonewall, Texas the tasting room at this winery is available by appointment from Thursday through Sunday. They also schedule tastings paired with selections prepared and paired by a professional chef. The menu specifically designed for the season. The Spring Pairing Menu runs from April 1, 2016 through July 1, 2016.
Duchman Family Winery: Located in Driftwood, Texas, the tagline that showed up on Google for this winery was 100% Texas Wines with 100% Texas Grapes. The tasting room is open Monday through Sunday; the hours vary by day. Their facility is available for rental for special occasions.
Bending Branch Winery: Located near Comfort, Texas, Bending Branch is a 56-acre estate. There are 2 tasting rooms—one on the estate and one in downtown Comfort. Tasting rooms are open daily with hours varying by day. Tours of the estate are available by appointment.
Pedernales Cellars: Located near Stonewall, Texas, Pedernales sources its grapes from vineyards in the Texas Hill Country and Texas High Plains. With exception of major holidays, the tasting room is open daily with hours varying by day. Reservations are requested for groups of 8 or more.
